Festivals and holidays are a time full of colours, sounds, tastes and smells – but how can you describe them all?

We can use Verbs of the Senses to talk about the way we experience things. Perhaps, ‘What does a wedding look like in your home country?’, or ‘What do you think is happening outside? There is a lot of noise!’

Verbs of the senses are also particularly useful when you’re describing an object to friend but you can’t remember the name for the thing! “It fits in your hand, and it looks like a hammer, but it sounds like a machine, and feels like it’s buzzing. It’s used to put holes into wood.”

  1. It smells ______ it is burnt.
  2. The cake tastes _____ vanilla.
  3. She sounds _____ she is angry!
  1. It smells as if/though it is burnt.
