New Year's Resolutions for 2024

At the beginning of every year, after the fireworks have gone dark and everyone has put away their bottles of champagne, people start to think about New Year’s resolutions. How can I make this year better than the last? How can I make a fresh start and improve my life in some way? It would be easy to choose something typical, like losing weight or saving money, but sometimes it’s better not to be typical. So we’re here today to give you some advice on New Year’s resolutions that are a little bit more interesting.

Give one compliment a day

The best way to feel good, and to change your attitude and perspective, is to make other people feel good. This year, try giving one compliment every day. Say something nice about your colleague’s haircut, or compliment your neighbour’s new jumper. And compliments don’t just have to be physical! You can compliment somebody on their hard work or a positive change they’ve made in their life. Spread a little kindness in 2024.

Stop multi-tasking

This isn’t possible for everyone. For some people life is so busy that multi-tasking is a necessity, and sometimes it’s just not possible to get everything done unless you make dinner, answer your emails, and do the laundry at the same time. In the end, though, multi-tasking has more risks than rewards. Recent studies have found that multi-tasking actually hurts our brains and can lead to memory problems. Of course it’s important to meet all of our responsibilities, but if multi-tasking gives you depression and anxiety maybe it’s better to leave a few things undone.

Learn English

Our last piece of advice to put on your New Year’s resolution list for 2024 is to study English. Having better English opens doors to a million different opportunities. If you’re starting from zero, take a beginner’s class to take that first step. Or maybe you know some grammar already, but you want to communicate more fluently – a speaking class would be perfect for you. Or perhaps you want to find a better career or go to university in an English-speaking country. In that case preparing for a Cambridge exam or the IELTS is what you need to do in 2024. Even if you already have a job in the UK, that’s no reason to stop learning. Taking a business English class, or English for Work, can massively improve your productivity at work and put you in a better position for a promotion. The sky’s the limit!

So there you have it. In 2024, don’t settle for the same old life. Try something new to make things better. We hope this year your New Year’s resolutions turn into good, lifelong habit.
