Learning at Ingla Policy
Course Materials
If you sign up for a General English, Cambridge or IELTS exam course at Ingla, you must buy a course book within the first week of your course.
If your booking is longer than six weeks, you have to buy the book (normally £33).
If you enrol for less time, you can rent a book. For this you need to leave a £20 deposit, and you’ll be charged £5 a week for using the course book.
Homework
Practice outside the classroom is very important if you want to improve your English.
Your teacher will plan a variety of activities for you to do at home to understand and use the grammar and vocabulary from class more effectively.
Homework will be set regularly, and your teacher expects that you will do it on time and to a good standard.
Assessment and Testing
During your time at Ingla, your teacher will regularly (usually once a week) assess your progress and give you feedback about how you are doing. This could happen in a few different ways.
Your teacher could give you regular unit or progress tests, mark a piece of writing you do, or give you a project to do with your classmates.
At the end of a course, you will sit a Final Exam that tests the four language skills and includes all the material from your level.
If you get 65% or higher, you can move up to the next level. If not, arrangements can be made but must first be discussed with the Ingla Management Team.
Tutorials
One of Ingla’s strongest points is that we listen to our students and offer specific, personal advice on learning English.
At the end of a 12-week term, you’ll have a one-to-one meeting with your teacher, after your Final Exam, to talk about the progress you’ve made and how you can continue to improve your English. This is a perfect time to think about what you’ve learned, your performance on tests and in the classroom, as well as your study habits at home.
Many students also use this opportunity to tell us how they think we can improve Ingla. Your voice is important to us!
